Wrong

This is not a post for Depeche Mode fans, though the title is the same as a recent single πŸ™‚ No, it’s about a correction from yesterday’s post. Apparently I was right about the eggplant and cucumber being a cow and a horse though I was probably dead wrong regarding it being done by kids.

The eggplant cow and cucumber horse are part of the obon celebration in Japan. They are prepared so that lost ancestors can travel between the afterworld and this world. You can find some more explanation at the Haiku Girl blog.

Though I still think they look like they are made by kids πŸ˜‰

  1. Hi there
Thanks for the mention! I think the eggplant cow and cucumber horse are often made by kids as part of the obon celebration. My ones happened to be made by a lovely lady in her 70s though! πŸ˜‰
    All the best

  2. I immediately thought of Depeche Mode. πŸ˜€

I wonder if the ancestors are traveling on the back of the vegetable animals. πŸ˜€

    • I think so… If you follow the link you can see a somewhat more sophisticated type of animals and it definitely looks like someone is supposed to ride on their backs πŸ™‚
