Going to Schiphol to meet Chie

At 12:10 pm my flight to Schiphol (Amsterdam) departed… With me onboard. I was going there to meet Chie coming in from Tokyo. Before that I had picked up our rental car (a grey Volvo C30) and parked it at the parking house closest to the arrival hall.
We spent 5 hours together. Having dinner. Salad and soup. Shopping. Chocolate (Toblerone celebrated its 100th aniversary), make-up, and other important things. Before entering our flight to Sweden at 9:05 pm we had a mineral water and Heiniken draft beer just next to the gate.

Chie at Schiphol

We arrived in Stockholm on schedule and got our bags. Chie from the belt and me from the locker in which I locked it in before departing for Schiphol. Then we drove to Gävle to sleep.

Leaving Kauai

Today we had to leave Kauai for this time. We left the Poipu Plantation Resort around 7:30 am to catch a flight to Honolulu at 9:50. Then Chie left Honolulu around 3:45 pm in a flight bound for Tokyo. I spent another 5 hours to catch a flight to LA, then Newark, to finally arrive in Stockholm around 7:30 am… On May 8. I arrived back home about 40 hours after departing Poipu Plantation Resort to take a shower, brush my teeth, and go to the office.

Last Day at Kiahuna

Today is our last day at Kauai for this time. But we will be back. As usual we wanted to spend our last day at Kiahuna, our favorite beach. The weather was not great. A little bit cloudy but still quite hot. And almost no people. We relaxed and had fun in the waves.

Afterwards we went back home and packed.Took a shower and got ready to go to Roy’s. At Roy’s we had spring rolls spiced with mint as a starter. And Macademian nut covered fish with asparagus, and short ribs with grilled vegetables. For dessert, apple volcano and Roy’s chocolate sufflé.

Hot Day at the Poipu Beach

The weather was lousy in the morning. Raining. Then it cleared up. And we went to the beach. As soon as we had settled in on the beach it started to rain again. But we hid under a palm tree and waited. For about 5 minutes. Then it stopped. An hour later it was sunny again and hot as…

We did some snorkeling. And saw some new fishes. A dark white dotted small blow fish, a flat fish, and a sea snake. Besides all the normal fishes at poipu.

In the afternoon we went to the pool bar at the Marriot’s to have a Mai Tai and a strawberry smoothie. When we were back at the beach our things were surrounded by big Americans. But they moved a away after less than 5 minutes of evil eyes. And the gods payed us back for our evil eyes by sending a big wave up the beach that drenched our towels.

At 5 pm we decided to return home. We stopped at the Poipu Shopping center to make a reservation at Roy’s for tomorrow night at 7 pm. Then we also bought some organic salad for the dinner tonight and the lunch tomorrow.

Secret Beach

We talked to Jay Naih at the reception this morning and he told us that the lighthouse on the north shore was 95 years old. They would celebrate this today. That was what made us decide to go to the north rather than stay in the south. And what a great decision it was. We went to Secret beach just next to the lighthouse. We’ve been here before but then it was too hot to stay for more than 5 minutes. This time it was beautiful here.

We spent the whole day here. Relaxing on the beach reading and playing in the waves. Also a some lava rock climbing to get to the “secret lava pools” and a waterfall.

At 3:30 pm we packed our things and went to the lighthouse. When we were walking towards the lighthouse people stood looking to the ocean, taking pictures. There were four whales and some dolphins. Probably Humpback whales but now they were not doing any humping. This late it is rare to see them around Hawaii. They come here to breed in December and leave in April. During that time the males don’t eat anything. Probably why they did not do any humping, to tired from not eating. Although they were far away it was a great sight.

On our way back we stopped at the Kojima store again to by kalbi for BBQing. Then a stop at Foodland to by Chris’ energy bars, at Wal-Mart in Lihue to buy some body lotion, and Big Save in Koloa to buy vegetables. And then we watched the sunset and had kalbi BBQ and salad for dinner.
