Kiahuna Day

Second day in a row it is raining in Sunny Poipu :-O We spent the morning going to Lihue again to check the Mac Made Easy store. If they had an iPad. They had, but not the one I wanted 🙁

It feels like the Soup Nazi has turned into iPad Nazi and every time I sneak into a store to try to buy an iPad, he pops up and screams “NO iPAD FOR YOU!”.

We went back to (the not so) Sunny Poipu. And it was almost back to its normal sunny state. Well, it was still cloudy but it had stopped raining so we went to Kiahuna to play in the waves.

First stop in Kiahuna though, was not the sea but the restaurant at the hotel. We had a watery Caesar Salad and a cheese burger with fries.

After lunch we played in the waves. Which were quite big today. Its so much fun you almost does not feel when it is time to get out of the water (teeth rattling and lips blue just as when you were a kid).

In the evening I had a walk down to the ocean (2 minutes walk from Poipu Plantation). To take some photos.

When we cooked dinner it hit me again that Americans are a strange people. Much of their designs are quite rough and big and not so well thought through. As their stoves. How can someone think about putting the control nob on the back of the stove so that if your pasta water boils over you need to reach through the hot steam to turn down the heat?

A Day at the Kiahuna Beach

Back again at our absolute favorite beach. It is always quite crowded here, but still a million light years away from Japanese beaches. Still we enjoy this beach because it is always big waves that is safe to play in.

At the end of the day a guy came up to us and said “Hey, how are you doin’?”. Then he gave us two beach chairs :-O. It turned out they had gotten the chairs from someone and tomorrow they were leaving the island so they wanted to return the gift to someone else.

At 5 pm we returned home to prepare dinner. Today it was pasta puttanesca. But before finalizing it we had a short walk down to the ocean to watch the sunset.

Then we had pasta puttanesca until we were so full we could not move.

Hello Kauai

At 11:30 am we touched down on Lihue airport in Kauai. Got our bags. Got a rental car. Drove to sunny Poipu. And… We were home 🙂

At least that was how it felt. The great feeling of turning right after a steep, short down hill ride. And the ocean with Poipu beach opens up before you.

Poipu Plantation was as friendly as ever when we checked in. This is our 6th (?) year here and they start to get to know us now.

Our tradition is to go to Kiahuna beach the first day, after a short stop at Brennecke’s where bought lunch sandwich.

The whole afternoon we spent in the sand at Kiahuna. The group of 3 couples that we see every year we are here… Were here again. They sit in a circle at the beach and talk and drink all day long. We lay down a while away as to not disturb them by turning the pages in our books too loudly 😉

When the waves had grown to the size of Tokyo Tower we went into the ocean. Freezingly cold at first, but actually really nice after the first chock.

At 5 pm it got cloudy and started to rain a bit so we packed out things and went grocery shopping. In the evening we had tomato sauce pasta and salad for dinner. At home. Yummy!

Last Day at Kiahuna

Our last day at Kauai. We spent it at out favorite beach, Kiahuna. Before going there we stopped at the Poipu Village Center to buy sunscreen. We run out yesterday. We manage to buy that and some other things from Life is Good.

Kiahuna beach Kiahuna beach

At Kiahuna had non-stop fun in the water. It has since we arrived gotten warmer and warmer for each day. Today was 29 degrees (Celsius) and quite warm in the water too.

When we were not in the water we talked some and read a lot. And Chie had a Mai Tai. Along with the Mai Tai she also got a free of charge Pina Colada – I think the guy in the bar likes her 😉

After 5 pm we left the beach and headed for Koloa Town. First stop was to fill up the gas in the car. Then to buy some dinner. Same place as yesterday, but this time we bought fish. So so.

Kiahuna

We spent another wonderful day at the Kiahuna beach today. Mostly reading and playing in the sea. And, of course, having lunch picnic. Today it was salad with sausage.

In the evening we BBQed kalbi. The dinner we had planned for yesterday evening, but then the grill was out of gas. Tonight it was not.
