Beijing Again

This week I have been in Beijing on a business trip again. As usual Beijing was grey and smoggy. This time it was also cold, -8 degrees some days. So the river I follow to get to the office in the morning was frozen, but that is an improvement from the greenish and smelly water that usually tries to flow in it.

While away on business trip there is not much you can do. Most of the day you are busy at the office. Once you get off in the evening there is not really any time available to do anything interesting, besides having dinner with friends and go to the gym at the hotel. So that is basically what I did this week too. I went to the gym twice. And had dinner with friends twice.

Then it was time to do the best part of being on a business trip… Coming home 🙂 Though this time I went directly home to have a 3 hours teleconf meeting 🙁

Yodakimbo

After work I took the visitor from our Lund office to Yodakimbo. A small and smoky restaurant in Naka-Meguro. Chie joined us after her work as well. We had a good time talking, eating and drinking. Besides the usual dishes at Yodakimbi we could also enjoy the nabe – chicken shabu-shabu. Delicious!

Returning to Tokyo

As always when in Beijing I wake up early on the day when I return. I usually catch the 8:25 am flight out of Beijing for Narita, which means leaving the hotel around 6 am.

One of the most interesting things in Beijing this time was a fried potato dish, which was quite tasty and that would have been excellent if it had been just a bit less oily.

Another interesting thing, or surprising thing, was the most clear morning I have ever experienced in Beijing… Though my nose and throat was still irritated the whole day.

Going to Beijing

Woke up and went to Haneda. Business trip to Beijing. Nothing that I really look forward to since Beijing is not so fun. Just very dirty. But sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Back in Tokyo

Having slept only 4 hours it was a wonder I woke up, and before the alarm clock rang as well. I just got ready, checked out and got into a taxi for the airport.

Once I checked in and passed security I found a reclining chair where I watched the last 40 minutes of a movie on my iPad. Then it was time to buy some water (very expensive bottle of Evian – 500 ml for 22 RMB) and board. In fact I was the first in line to board for the economy class. I was really looking forward to get back home.

Just after noon I touched down in Japan. What a relief. Within 30 minutes after touch down I passed the customs and bought me a NEX ticket to get back home.

After the workout I met Chie and Mina-sensei at Kotokoto for dinner. Which as usual was superb. It was wonderful to get some healthy Japanese food to mix up the somewhat oily dishes in Beijing.

In short, it was good to be back home!
